I'm looking at This book, windows on nature as a reference for the setting of my short. It's a book filled with images from the natural history museum. I'm really interested in the imagery of fabricated nature, and the creation of the "natural" world within a controlled human environment. Here's my initial sketch of a space that at first appearance seems to be outdoors/natural but as each element in the scene is scanned/captured it becomes made of constructed parts, until finally everything in the scene has been frozen and we continue to pull back t reveal that we're in a museum setting. I'm interested in using unexpected anatomy inside the animals within the exhibit- robotics/mechanisms, and human skulls. Projected timeline:
:00-:05 Open on scene of nature, moving through layered 2D space, moving past trees/plants :05-:10 SFX camera click, scanner light moves over tree and we see the interior, which is constructed out of 2x4s and prop material - when a plant/animal is scanned it freezes while the rest of the scene continues to move :10 pull back from tree and move through space :11-:15 CU capture/scan butterfly at a flower, the rest of the butterflies scatter away from the scan, see mechanisms/robotic parts inside the butterfly :15 pull back and move to small animal gathering food :16-21 CU scan animal, reveal mechanisms and human skull inside :21-26 pull out and as tracking backwards more and more elements of the scene are scanned/frozen until the entire scene is collected :26-:30 continue to pull backwards to reveal silhouettes of people at a museum strolling in front of the exhibit. |
